Byfield State School is a Kindergarten to Year 6 small, rural school offering a multi-age delivery of the Australian Curriculum across a small number of classes.  Our school is situated in the natural setting of mountain ranges, rainforests and the Byfield National Park, approximately 40 kilometres north of Yeppoon on the Capricorn coast. The school has serviced the local community since 1948 and is considered a hub of the community.

Byfield State School focuses on the potential of every student's educational achievement and wellbeing by delivering an inclusive and differentiated curriculum with an age appropriate, indoor and outdoor learning pedagogy.

Teaching and learning at Byfield State School, embeds all areas of the Australian Curriculum with a strong focus on literacy, numeracy and STEAM. Teachers and students value their strong links with country, sustainability and personal growth. We have a high focus on starting strong to foster positive transitions in the early years with our integrated Kindergarten Program and Community Playgroup.

Parents work collaboratively through a supportive Parents and Citizen Association which aims to assist with educational opportunities, development of the facilities and services for the students in this community. Our community partnerships, the valuing all the voices in our school community and celebrating learning are some of our greatest strengths.

Curriculum

At Byfield State School student learning and wellbeing is our focus. The Australian Curriculum is implemented with high quality teaching through a lens of age appropriate pedagogies and outdoor/hands on learning opportunities.

To have our students achieve success through improvement, they need to attend school regularly. Our aim is for each student to achieve a 95% attendance rate. This will allow them to access the entire core learning they need to learn in a year level.

Leadership

Students in the final year at our school are able to apply for a student leader position. All student leaders participate in the GRIP Leadership Training and undertake a low cost, high impact project to enhance our school community.

Awards

An Awards ceremony is held in conjunction with our annual concert at the end of the school year. The awards recognise any student’s efforts and achievements in the areas of academic students, citizenship and overall leadership and fellowship. The trophies are made by a local international trophy maker and sponsored by the school, historical society and hall committee.

Earth and sun smart

Our school timetabling and uniform reflects our focus on our students being sunsafe when they are active and on excursions. We aim to reduce our ecological footprint by maintaining our recycling program and implementing other earth smart initiatives.

Cluster

Byfield State School staff and students enjoy the benefits of belonging to the Capricorn Coast Schools cluster and Keppel Coast Small Schools cluster for professional, curriculum and networking programs and gala days.
