Our school

Byfield State School is a small school located approximately 40 kilometres North of Yeppoon in the Capricornia region of Central Queensland. With mountains to the immediate West, national parks and coastal dunes to the East, Byfield is only accessible from the South. The natural beauty of the area makes it attractive to tourists, holiday makers and campers.

Originally the Byfield area was a primary industry area where dairy farming, fruit growing and forestry were the main industries. In 1948 after a few failed attempts of maintaining a school, the community again petitioned the government for a school. From that year, an education service has been successfully maintained in Byfield.

Lessons commenced in what is now called ‘Byfield Hall’. Historically the community has celebrated milestones from this year. The current school began classes in 1960 and is about 300 metres from the old school.

Today, the children of Byfield State School come from the local area where most families live because of lifestyle choices. Our school is seen as an important part of the local community.

Our school vision is 'grow from challenges, engage through actions, and be happy in oneself'.

Curriculum

At Byfield State School student learning and improvement is our focus. Our pedagogical framework outlines the high quality explicit teaching processes of the school and is aligned to Education Queensland’s Dimensions of Teaching and Learning. Our school curriculum is derived from the Australian and Queensland curricula.

To have our students achieve success through improvement, they need to attend school regularly. Our aim is for each student to achieve a 95% attendance rate. This will allow them to access the entire core learning they need to learn in a year level.

Leadership

Students in the final year at our school are able to apply for a student leader position. All student leaders participate in the Capricorn Coast Student Leadership camp held in Brisbane each year.

Awards

An Awards ceremony is held in conjunction with our annual concert at the end of the school year. The awards recognise any student’s efforts and achievements in the areas of academic students, citizenship and overall leadership and fellowship. The trophies are made by a local international trophy maker and sponsored by the school, historical society and hall committee.

Earth and sun smart

Our school timetabling and uniform reflects our focus on our students being sunsafe when they are active and on excursions. We aim to reduce our ecological footprint by maintaining our recycling program and implementing other earth smart initiatives.

Cluster

Byfield State School staff and students enjoy the benefits of belonging to the Capricorn Coast Schools cluster and Keppel Coast Small Schools cluster for professional, curriculum and networking programs and gala days.
